Abstract: 邇來,通識教育在我國大學教育的實踐愈趨受到重視。然而,迄今通識教育的涵義卻仍難獲致共識,以致通識教育的發展遭受影響。職此之故,本文旨在探微通識教育涵義,冀望俾利通識教育的發展。而本文探微出通識教育的涵義分別為:(1)通識教育是素養教育;(2)通識教育是促進人主體意識覺醒的教育;(3)通識教育是全人教育;(4)通識教育的本質是博雅教育;(5)通識教育的終極關懷是人文精神;(6)通識教育並非補充教育;(7)通識教育是大學的基礎與核心教育。
Recently, the significance of general education has been recognized by more and more researchers in Taiwan university education. However, there has been little agreement as to the meaning of general education and the lack of agreement might negatively influence the development of general education. For the reason, this essay intends to explore the meaning of general education, and hopes that such an exploration will benefit the development of general education. Based on the exploration of this essay, the meaning of general education includes: (1) general education is the education of general capacity, (2) general education is the education which liberates one person’s subjective consciousness, (3) general education is holistic education, (4) the essence of general education is liberal education, (5) the ultimate concern of general education is humanistic spirit, (6) general education is not supplement education, and (7) general education is the basis and core of university education.
