Abstract: Francis Wayland Parker(1837~1902)是一位美國的教育學家,在課程與教學上進行許多改革。Parker 對於美國進步教育的開展貢獻良多,人們認為Parker 為進步教育之父。本研究藉由閱讀歷史文獻,首先探討Parker 的生平事蹟、兒童中心教育理念的哲學基礎與內涵。再者,並意圖敘明其教育實踐。最後,本研究評析Parker 的兒童中心教育理念,並分析對於臺灣當前兒童教育可以提供的啟示。
Francis Wayland Parker (1837~1902), an American educationist, made various reforms on curriculum and instruction. With regard to the progressive education in U.S., Parker plays a significant role in its development. People who usually regard Parker as the father of progressive education. By reviewing and analyzing historical works, this study aims to explore the life stories of Parker, and his philosophical foundation and content of child-centered education. Further, this study intends to illuminate Parker’s educational practice. In the end, this study proposes to evaluate Parker’s idea of child-centered education, and explore its implications for contemporary children education in Taiwan.
