The essential oil from the leaves of Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack. var. omphalocarpa (Hayata) Swingle Linn. (Rutaceae) was analyzed by GC/MS. Thirty-three compounds representing 99.4 % of the essential oil were charaterized.β-Caryophyllene (21.1 %), -elemene (17.6 %) and -elemene (16.6 %) were the main components, comprising 55.3 % of the oil. This oil may be utilized as a source for the isolation of natural caryophyllene and elemene for the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity.
