The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between job-related stress perception and emotional labor of the nurses working in critical and emergency care wards. A cross-sectional descriptive design with purposive sampling was used to obtain potential subjects. Data collection were be performed by well-trained research assistants and the research tools included the demographic data, “Stress Perception Questionnaire” and “Emotional Labor Scale”. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA were used to analyze all obtained data. The results show that: (1) The nurses working in critical and emergency care wards have moderate level stressful perception and high level emotional labor; (2) The scores between “stress for rational thinking” and “ emotional labor for superficial emotional control” was a positively correlated relationship(p<0.05); (3)There were many significant relationships among nurses characteristics and the scores of stress and emotional labor. The findings would be helpful as a reference in planning clinical care standard to improve the quality of critical and emergency care and as a baseline data for the future research.
