The purpose of this paper, which reviewed the literature over the past two decade, was to explore how “non-maternal child care” studies have developed in Taiwan. We classified articles and also analysed the literature based on Ecological System Theory.
We classified articles into three main problem domains:(1) parent’s need of child care-- include inquire parent’s expectations, values and choice of child care; parent’s satisfaction with child care providers. (2) provide for non-maternal child care-- include inquire the quality of day care ; caregiver’s perception, practices ; caregiver-parent communication. (3) child care policy-- include compare child care policy in Taiwan with other countries; assessment of national child care.
According to the Ecological System Theory, the need and use of child care are affected by different aspects of factors across contexts and time. Therefor, this paper suggest that non-maternal child care issue should adopt the ecological points of view to make a proposal and develop longitudinal study in the future.
