This study was designed to explore the willing of participation, the barriers of participation and health acknowledgement for students to “walk to school” from parents of Keelung municipal elementary school students.

This study sampled parents of eight Keelung elementary school children as objects, used the questionnaire survey research methods, through stratified sampling. The questionnaires were evenly distributed to parents with children in low, middle & high school class of each school. Total of 540 copies were distributed to obtain 483 valid questionnaires, the effective rate was 89.4%. The obtained valid questionnaires were analyzed through “Descriptive Statistics”, “One-way ANOVA” (Scheffe method post hoc to compare), “Pearson product-moment correlation” and “Multiple Regression Analysis”, the end result shows:

(1)There’s significant influence on parents’ willing of participation about “walk to school” from different gender (male>female), school class (higher grades>lower grades), place of residence (school district> outside the school district), education (college >Junior, Senior middle school), occupation (Business>Industry, other; Military and government>Industry), commuting methods (walk on their own> parents pick, doll shuttle bus), means of commuting (motorcycle>car), distance from school (Within 500 meters>2 km above) and climatic condition (rain or shine all day walking to school>neither walk to school day rain or shine).

(2)There’s significant influence on parents’ barriers of participation about “walk to school” from school class (lower grades>higher grades), place of residence (outside the school district>school district), education (college, Senior middle school>Junior), occupation (Business >Industry, Self Employed, Management or retirement home; Military and government>Industry), commuting methods (parents pick, doll shuttle bus>walk on their own), means of commuting (car>motorcycle), distance from school (2 km above>Within 500 meters) , climatic condition (neither walk to school day rain or shine>rain or shine all day walking to school) and school location (Affect>Not affect).

(3)There’s negative correlation between willing of participation dimension and barriers of participation dimension.

(4)There’s negative correlation between willing of participation dimension and health acknowledgement dimension.

(5)There’s negative correlation between barriers of participation and health acknowledgement dimension.

Based on the above findings, the researcher proposed concrete recommendations to excel the “walk to school” health acknowledgement, reduce the barriers and promote the willingness of participation to the parents of school children. This research will provide as reference to educational administration, school administration, parents and future researchers.
